Keeping score of Trix Complex
Complex folds the contracts together for a faster match. The app handles the merged scoring — you enter the same results, fewer times.
Trix Complex is the short game in the Trix family. The four avoidance contracts are fused into one round, so a kingdom is two contracts instead of five and a full match is eight instead of twenty. What it is not is an easier game to score on paper: every penalty card in the deck is live at the same time, which is exactly the situation in which a handwritten scoresheet turns into a disagreement.
This guide covers scoring a Complex match in the ScoresDeck app. It assumes you know how Complex is played — if the merged round is new to you, read the rules of Trix Complex first, because the values are identical to standard Trix and only the grouping changes.
Complex Partners works identically — same house, same setup, same round sheet — so use this guide for either.
Before you start
Seat only people who follow you back. The picker is built from your mutual followers, so add and accept the follows before the deal rather than in the middle of setup.
Open the right calculator. Complex keeps its own stat line, separate from standard Trix, and a match cannot be converted from one to the other once it has been created.
House rules are set once. Doubling and self-doubling apply inside the merged round the same way they apply to separate contracts, and they are fixed for the match from the first entry.
Decide public or private at creation. A private match still counts for every stat and leaderboard; it is only hidden from public feeds and profiles.
Step by step
- 1Open the Complex calculator
From the Calculators tab choose Complex (or Complex Partners for 2-vs-2). It is the shortest of the Trix family, which is what makes it the usual pick for a long evening.

- 2Set the table
Complex uses the same four-seat Trix House and the same house rules. Doubling and self-doubling are set here before the first contract and apply for the whole match.

- 3Seat the players
Tap the + on an empty seat and pick a player from your mutual followers. Complex is exactly four players, like every Trix variant.

- 4Create the match
Invites go out when you create the match. The seat rings show who has accepted; you can start as soon as the table is ready rather than waiting on notifications.

- 5Score the merged contracts
Complex combines what standard Trix plays as separate contracts, so one entry covers penalties that would otherwise take several rounds. Enter who took what and ScoresDeck resolves the combined value.

- 6Record a double
Doubling behaves inside the merged round exactly as it does in the standard game. Tap the 2x on a row and the sheet asks who doubled the card and who fed it - without leaving Complex, which steps through its four parts along the bar at the top (1/4 to 4/4) instead of closing after each one.

- 7Score the Trix contract
The kingdom's second and last contract is Trix, scored exactly as in the standard game: tap the players in the order they went out and the app pays 200, 150, 100 and 50.

- 8Follow the running score
Totals and standings update after every entry, the same as standard Trix — just fewer entries to reach the end.

- 9Finish the match
When the last kingdom is done the highest total wins. The result posts to stats and feeds exactly as a standard Trix match would.

- 10Leaving a match early
Exit offers two very different things. Forfeit records the match - you lose, the opponents win, and it counts toward everyone's stats. Cancel voids it for everyone with no result recorded. Neither can be undone.

What ScoresDeck works out for you
One entry settles what standard Trix takes four contracts to record. The Complex sheet collects the King of Hearts, the Queens, the Diamonds and the Collections tricks together and resolves the combined value in a single confirm.
The sheet keeps your place. In Complex the round sheet stays open and steps through its parts — 1/4 to 4/4 — rather than closing back to the kingdom list after each piece, so a long entry does not cost you where you were.
Doubling still pays out correctly inside the merged round. The doubled penalty, the doubler’s bonus for feeding the card away and self-doubles all resolve exactly as they do in the standard game — folding the contracts together does not change a single value.
Eight contracts in, the match closes itself. The highest total wins, the result posts to every player’s stats and reaches their followers’ feeds, exactly as a standard Trix match would.
Worth knowing
- Complex and standard Trix keep separate stats, so a Complex run does not distort your Trix record.
- If your table plays Complex with house doubling, set it before the first entry — it cannot be changed mid-match.
Frequently asked questions
The values are identical; only the grouping changes. The Complex round collects the King of Hearts, Queens, Diamonds and Collections in one entry instead of four separate contracts, and the app resolves the combined total for you.
Eight — two per kingdom across four kingdoms. Standard Trix is twenty.
No. Complex keeps a separate stat line, so a run of short games does not distort your standard Trix record.
No. The variant is fixed by the calculator you open, so pick it before you seat anyone.
Yes. Set it on the setup screen before the first entry and it applies for the whole match, with the same doubled penalties and the same bonus to the player who fed the card away.
Yes. A scored contract reopens from the kingdom list with a pencil on it; re-enter it and the app recalculates the totals. That matters more in Complex than in standard Trix, because one entry carries four contracts' worth of penalties.
